Art Deco wedding rings are the most popular vintage rings in today’s swank circles. These rings are characterized by their geometric shapes and their use of boldly colored gems and intricate designs.
The Art Deco period began in 1925 and lasted until around 1939. The term was derived from the title of the World’s Fair which was held in Paris, France. This fair was called The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes or International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in English.

Vintage Art Deco rings are usually made of white gold or platinum. Contrast and symmetry dominate these antique wedding rings. They tend to be geometric in design with diamonds or other gems set in square, hexagonal, or octagonal mountings. You won’t find an Art Deco solitaire, however, as the center stone is always surrounded by other gems. These dramatic rings quite often contain numerous stones of varied and contrasting colors.
Diamond cutting was also updated during this period, and new cuts were introduced. Art Deco wedding rings often contain baguettes, triangle, and caliber cut diamonds and gems. This was the first appearance of these cuts. Another feature of these gorgeous rings is their detailed filigree work which is also combined with sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and/or diamonds.
Art Deco Wedding rings can be difficult to locate, but don’t despair. They can be found at estate sales, jewelry stores, and online. Replicas are also available, but nothing beats the real thing.
